Itinerary features

Permaculture- Food Scenery Vegetable Garden

Permaculture is a set of design principles centered on whole systems thinking, simulating, or directly utilizing the patterns and resilient features observed in natural ecosystems. It uses these principles in a growing number of fields such as regenerative agriculture, rewilding, and community resilience. During the camp, the Permaculture farming method will be used to organize and construct an ornamental and edible vegetable garden to provide a new farming style in the traditional Sankeng countryside.

Natural Architecture- Centennial Stone Brick Restorative

  • Century-old stone bricks Trail maintenance: Stone bricks are used as plazas or pavements, which are more environmentally friendly and natural than cement paving. The gap between the masonry and stone can also accommodate water and various biological deposits. During the camp, the century-old stone brick paving will be repaired, and the stone brick base will be re-tamped to revitalize its use.
  • Lacquered and maintenance of the wooden pallets: bamboo, wood, soil, and stone are all materials in natural construction. As long as the outdoor wood is well maintained, it can continue life and be used for a long time. Learning to paint handguards is almost a routine course for the camp.

Hakka Food Culture - The endless changes of a grain of rice

  • The Hakka people work hard and study hard, and most of them grow rice for a living. They have a special liking for rice food. The ever-changing Hakka steamed food has been developed in the diet. During the camp, it was the season for Hakka people to harvest autumn and winter storage. Let us follow the Hakka people to make this year’s harvest of rice into a bowl of delicious rice & rice noodles.
  • Mi Taimu as the most representative food. It is a kind of elastic rice food, which looks like noodles, but it has the taste and flavor of rice. It is not only a banquet snack for various celebrations, but also a staple food for general meals.
  • Turnip Cake: In the twelfth lunar month, the radish matures, it is sliced into strips and added to the rice paddle, seasoned with pepper, and steamed to make the fragrant Turnip Cake. You can fry it with raw garlic soy sauce, or cut into strips and boil with the duck stock. Very delicious 🙂

Continue Mrs. Yang's Environmental Sustainability Efforts - Revitalization of The House of Colors

  • Restarting the outdoor oven fire: The House of Colors is the dream base of Mrs. Yang’s sustainable living in Sankeng village. As a fan of the mainland Internet celebrity Li Ziqi, Mrs. Yang followed and built a outdoor pizza/bread oven. During the camp, we will be stationed in the House of Colors, collecting firewood and boiling water, and baking bread in this Panda Head Oven.
  • Wild food in the rice fields: In front of the House of Colors is a vast rice field. After the rice is harvested, the rice field is a playground for adults and children. The oven is controlled to roast sweet potatoes and smoke barbecue chickens. Without pots and utensils, playful and delicious food can be made.
